I am so glad you have this website. You are definitely the expert. You did a phenomenal job remodeling my bathroom a few years ago. Right now I have seepage in the basement. What do you suggest?
Alison,
Thank you for the kind compliment. I am sorry to hear about seepage in your basement and not knowing your exact situation , the best I can do is give you a few suggestions that might help you out. First, make sure your gutters and downspouts are unobstructed and flowing freely and well away frome your home, and sometimes adding an extension to the end of the downspout can be helpful. A clogged gutter can dump a considerable amount of water right next to the foundation of your home. – Next you will want to take a look at the landscaping around your home to make sure it is sloped away from your home. The ground around the foundation has a tendency to settle over the years causing the water to flow in that direction. In our area the ground has not completely thawed and with all the rain we have had lately, the reult is flooding. Alison, there is agood chance you have a crack in your foundation, and if the above suggestions don’t help, that crack will have to be repaired. There are a few different methods of repair and the one I have had the best results with is an epoxy injection system. In this area Menards carries that product if you wish to repair it yourself.

Nice website. I’m thinking of going totally green and getting off the electric grid. I need to power about a 1800 sf home. Do you think if I go solar on the roof and put a wind turbine generator in the backyard this would do the trick. Also I live on the flight path for Ohare Airport, Would I need permission to build the turbine. Apprecite any advice. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for the compliment and great questions! You are not alone in looking for ways to utilize renewable energy to provide your home with electricity to reduce energy costs, reduce pollution and achieve energy independence. There are, as you have noticed many questions to be answered such as: which is best. off the grid or grid-tied; solar or wind and as you were probably wondering, how much roof area would you need to serve your homes needs? I hope you don’t mind me using your questions as the topic of my next post because I bet there are many readers who share your interest of going totally green. So check in on Sunday, March 22, for my article on solar and wind power where I plan to answer some of your questions plus provide you with links to some terrific resources.
